Dr Bill Meil, IUP Psychology Department: Why do some people use alcohol and drugs and have no problems, but others do? This program will explore the science behind addiction and share what places people at risk.

The Human Impact of Addiction 
Listen as several panelists talk about their experiences in dealing with addiction from different perspectives.  You’ll hear the personal story of panelists who found the road to recovery and the journey faced by family members who have been touched by a loved one’s addiction.  

Tuesday, February 25 -7:00 p.m.

The Emerging Science of Addiction Treatment 
Antoine Douaihy, M.D. Associate Professor of Psychiatry University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Director, Addiction Medicine Services Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic will explore the science behind the ways we treat addiction, including medication assisted therapies, and the caveats of medical marijuana.

Hope for the Future 
Dr. Erick Lauber and a Certified Recovery Specialist, Armstrong, Indiana, Clarion Drug and Alcohol Commission will explore the importance of reducing the stigma of addiction and highlight all the resources that exist to help individuals who are suffering with addiction. It will also cover available resources for those dealing with a loved one or friend experiencing addiction issues.
